Due to liability concerns child car seats should not be reused and should be discarded after their expiration date. After receiving many calls asking where child car seats can be recycled, RAM unveilled the REseatTM program on America Recycles Day in 2011. This new and exciting recycling program recycles all unwanted and expired child safety seats.
At the first collection event on America Recycles Day in 2011, 182 child car seats were collected for recycling. Hundreds more car seats have been collected at single day events and at year round drop off locations since the program began. In 2012, 973 car seats were collected for recycling bringing the total carseats recycled through the program as of September of 2013 is over 2250 car seats! Keep up the good work Minnesota! Our goal is to offer this recycling program statewide. Currently we are recycling only from the Twin Cities area but plan to expand to other parts of the state in 2013.
The cost to recycle is $10 per seat. We dismantle the car seat into the 3 main components for recycling: metal, plastic and cloth straps which allows us to recycle 95% of the materials!
