REseatTM is a RAM recycling program that was unveiled on America Recycles Day 2011. The Recycling Association of Minnesota has received call after call asking what could be done with used car seats. We decided to create the answer with the REseat recycling program. This new and exciting recycling program recycles all unwanted child safety seats. Child safety seats should not be used beyond their expiration date with most having an expiration date of 6 years. Due to liability concerns, thrift stores will not accept them either for reuse.
Our goal is to offer this recycling program statewide. Currently we are recycling only from the Twin Cities area but plan to expand by 2012 to other parts of the state.
The cost to recycle is $10 per seat. We dismantle the car seat into the 3 main components for recycling: metal, plastic and cloth straps which allows us to recycle 95% of the materials!
